I am seeing more and more tweets about prayer that ask God to financially bless the prayee. Yes we have yet another surfacing of the gospel of prosperity. You see, all you have to do is to ask God for money. And you'll get it! Right! How come there aren't a whole lot of millionaires sitting in the pews of those churches. Of course there are people there who are getting very rich, they're the ones preaching this hogwash and taking a big slice out of the pockets of the people in the pews. Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you that part. To get rich, you have to give God lots of money first. In the secular world this is called a pyramid scheme.

Of course I understand that people are getting desperate these days. But folks God gave us lots of things already. God gave us the means to work with our hands and our minds. God doesn't spend time filling our pockets with cash.  And we do not give to God because we want God to give us lots back. We do it to say thank you. When my human stirs himself to put out the cat food, I purr to say thank you. But if he puts out a big box of catnip, my purr is a bit louder. Well God has given us a whole lot more than a box of catnip. Say thank you by giving in church and to those who are in need. But don't expect a monetary gift in return. That isn't thankfulness, it's bribery.
