And God created the ELCA 08/23/2009
![]() In the beginning, there was love. The love was God and all people were held in that love. All of God's people rejoiced in God's love. No matter their differences, they rejoiced in God's love and they loved one another. But over time, human emotions replaced God's love. God declared love. Humans declared hate against those different from them. At first they declared hatred against people of other faiths. Then they declared hatred against people of other skin colors. Then they declared hatred against those whose sexualities differed from their sexuality. Humans used God's word as a proof text in an attempt to show how lifting scripture out of context could provide justification for human prejudice. In each case, God responded. Where humans showed hatred against other creatures of God because of their faith, God raised up witnesses to cry "shame and murder." When humans raised up hate of people of other skin colors, God created resistance in many forms. And now, while humans proof text Scripture to prove that God hates people of other sexualities, God creates witnesses like the Evangelical Church in America. During the deliberations of the ELCA church wide assembly last week, the Holy Spirit led the ELCA beyond proof texting. The Spirit led this denomination to recognize the example of inclusive love showed by Jesus overrules narrow views of scripture taken out of context. In their actions the ELCA recognized how God calls people of all sexualities to ministry; how God's call to ministry includes a call to ministry of committed gays and lesbians. All are called. All are equal. All are loved. God bless the Evangelical Church in America! 1 Comment It has been pointed out to me that I have been a bad kitty and not careful in research. Besides the Episcopal Church there is another mainline denomination that supports the ordination of gays and lesbians. The United Church of Christ has been inclusive in its standard for ordination for many years. Thanks be to God for them. Thanks be to God for the Episcopal Church 07/14/2009
"The constitution and canons of our church as currently written do not preclude gay and lesbian persons from participating," in any part of the church, said the Rev. Gay Clark Jennings, on the committee that drafted the statement. "These people have responded to God's call." Forward Into the Dark Ages 07/02/2009
What do you get when you put together a mixture of former Episcopalians, low church Charismatic Roman Catholics and a mish mosh of other creeds who are only united by their homophobia? Well of course you get the Anglican Church in North America. Given the right wing nature of the participants, their rampant homophobia is not too surprising. What is surprising is the willingness of some of their Bishops to tell openly of their further retreat to the past. Here is Bishop William Wantland's statement when asked if the denomination wanted to forbid female priests: | Custom Search PresbyCatSome humans might know me from my time at Ecunet. Others know me from other places. Some of them have found me to be annoying! All of them have found me to be wiling to stand up for the rights of all of God's creatures.
